Brick production in Ebetsu started in 1891.
The ceramics industry in Ebetsu flourished just after the turn of the century, with 14 brick factories in the Nopporo area.
Only four still remain today. Most of the historical factories have been demolished to build modern shopping malls and high-rise apartment complexes.
